LEGACY
MIGRATION
The "to be" vision resulting from a Enterprise Architecture Assessment can entail replacement of legacy systems deemed to be of low value to the business strategy. This process of migrating and retiring legacy systems requires careful planning and execution to ensure continuity of operations throughout the transition.
- Matrix first develops the overall strategy and plan for migration, which includes consideration of:
- Phased migration of systems too large and operationally critical to retire in one piece
- How to componentize the legacy application software and databases to enable a phased retirement
- Use of forward, reverse or hybrid migration approaches
- Use of interim middleware or EIA solutions to keep the legacy system components integrated with the "to be" environment after each iteration
- Matrix then develops data conversion strategies and plans, to include requirements for testing and data cleanup in each migration iteration.
- Finally, Matrix assists in executing the plans, developing interfaces and data conversion tools, and supporting the day-to-day conversion effort.
